A FRESH START ! 1/2/2013

I was debating what to post on the 1st Blog of the year and decided that i was going to keep it short and simple. Sometime in early 2012 i was having a hard time understanding why some people could never keep it positive or always had to rain on everyone elses parade. I wondered “why even make an attempt to try and better myself and the people around me if all we kept running into in the world was negativity.” So i discussed the thoughts and situations i had with a good friend of mine and he tried to talk sense into me. When i got back home i checked my email and my friend/mentor sent me this:

Eric,

Sorry to go all “philosophical” on you but, I think this is important.

“In this society I’m beginning to question making any effort at all.”

My response was to post The Paradoxical Commandments, a series
of wonderful inspirational thoughts that have found there way around
the world. On some of my worst days dealing with any problem I try to
remember the concept of “Anyway”. The Paradoxical Commandments
were written in 1968 by Kent Keith and are contained in a book
called AnyWay

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot
down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

****

Throughout the year i read this email several times. I use it as reminder to continue doing what i do regardless of what people think or may say. This whole email really was not about me, rather an email about the world needing good people. So in times of doubt i hope that we can all be the bigger people in 2013 and do good for others.

Love you all and thank you for being you !

Yet another great post, Eric. Uplifting and very motivating. It’s true, these “Do it Anyway” Commandments and what a crazy world it is we live in… Some things seem to work in such backwards ways sometimes.
The ‘community’ of BBCF has a rock solid foundation and with this ‘Anyway’ attitude, anything is possible. 2013 is ours!
